If the timing works, I would usually steer a traveler with luggage toward the Campania Express over the regular Circumvesuviana. If budget matters most or the Campania Express schedule does not line up with your arrival, the Circumvesuviana is still perfectly workable.

Taking the Ferry From Naples to Sorrento

A ferry can make the transfer feel more like part of the vacation, especially on a clear day when you can enjoy views of the Bay of Naples.

The catch is that it is not necessarily a door-to-door solution.

If you are arriving at Naples Airport or Naples Centrale, you still have to get yourself and your luggage to the port. Once you arrive in Sorrento, you also need to get from the marina up to your hotel.
