🌈 Top LGBTQ+ Friendly Travel Destinations for 2025

Planning your next adventure and want to feel welcomed, safe, and celebrated? Whether you’re traveling solo, with a partner, or with your chosen family, these destinations are known for being inclusive, affirming, and vibrant places where LGBTQ+ travelers can relax and be themselves.

Here are my top picks for 2025:

1. Toronto, Canada

With its progressive policies and thriving queer community, Toronto is one of North America’s most inclusive cities. You’ll find rainbow crosswalks in the Church-Wellesley Village and festivals like Pride Toronto that take over the city in the summer.

Don’t miss:

  • Drag shows in the Gay Village

  • Queer-friendly cafés and bookstores

  • Toronto Islands for a peaceful escape

2. Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona’s open-minded energy and incredible Pride celebrations make it a top choice. The nightlife is buzzing, the beaches are topless-friendly, and LGBTQ+ travelers are welcomed with open arms.

Don’t miss:

  • Circuit Festival (Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ festival)

  • The Eixample district aka “Gayxample”

  • Sunset at Bunkers del Carmel

3. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam has been a pioneer in LGBTQ+ rights for decades. Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2001, and the city exudes a “come as you are” spirit.

Don’t miss:

  • Canal Pride Parade (on actual boats!)

  • LGBTQ+ history at the Homomonument

  • Bars and cafés in Reguliersdwarsstraat

4. Cape Town, South Africa

Often referred to as the “gay capital” of Africa, Cape Town is a progressive haven in a region that can be complicated. Its natural beauty and inclusive scene make it a standout.

Don’t miss:

  • Pink Loerie Mardi Gras in nearby Knysna

    Clifton 3rd Beach (very gay-friendly)

  • Exploring wine country or hiking Table Mountain

5. New Orleans, Louisiana

Yes, the U.S. still has some standout LGBTQ+ travel gems—and New Orleans is one of them. With its "laissez-faire" spirit, diverse community, and non-stop party vibe, it’s a safe and fabulous option.

Don’t miss:

  • Southern Decadence in September

  • Drag brunches in the French Quarter

  • Late-night music on Frenchmen Street

6. Bangkok, Thailand

Thailand is generally welcoming to LGBTQ+ travelers, and Bangkok’s queer nightlife is electric. While legal protections are still evolving, the culture is tolerant and expressive.

Don’t miss:

  • Silom Soi 2 & Soi 4 bars

  • Bangkok Pride

  • Visiting LGBTQ+ owned businesses and cafés

A Note on Travel Safety

Even in LGBTQ+ friendly destinations, it’s smart to stay aware of local customs, laws, and comfort levels. I always recommend:

  • Checking up-to-date LGBTQ+ travel advisories

  • Registering with the U.S. STEP program (if applicable)

  • Booking LGBTQ+ friendly hotels or with advisors (like me!) who know how to vet them
